Keyless Entry
BMW Digital Key allows you to lock and unlock your car by tapping your smartphone. Download the app through Apple Wallet or Google Play Store and then follow the steps on the screen. Once you've connected your compatible mobile device to your BMW Connected account you can share access with up to five family or friends members who also have the app. When they accept your invitation, they'll be able to unlock and start your car without needing to have an actual key. The feature is functional even when your phone is in airplane mode, with or without a data connection.
The convenience of the BMW Smart Key goes well beyond just unlocking your car. You can use the BMW Smart Key to unlock the trunk as well as control your HVAC, check the fuel level and more. You can even make your car's interior conditioned so that it's warm or cold when you arrive. The only restriction is that your BMW must have Comfort Access from the factory or retrofitted by an authorized BMW dealer. If you're ready to set up a new BMW Digital Key, start by ensuring your smartphone is fully charged and in the same space as your vehicle. Battery Replacement

For instance, the older diamond-shaped BMW key fobs were not designed to be replaced. The backplate is secured, so removing it will harm the fob. The CR2450 battery or CR2032 can be replaced in older fobs by opening the fob.
You can remove the metal valet keys from the most well-known smart key models (1 3, 5 7 and X) by pressing the small tab. Then, you can unlock the access port using the help of a screwdriver. The tab should reveal a small groove. Use the tool to push the tab in and then remove the valet key to reveal the CR2032 battery within. Replace the battery with a new one, and then put the cover back on.
You'll need to take another method when you own a Display key with a touchscreen. While the Display Key is extremely waterproof, it's not as waterproof as the standard key fob, so you will need to be cautious when exposure to excessive humidity. Although it is able to withstand even a trip through the washing machine, it is best to treat it as you would a smartphone -- don't worry about rain but keep it out from water bodies.
